Early Childhood Education: Birth - Kindergarten, B.A.

This program is designed for those candidates interested in teaching birth through kindergarten in the general education and special education classroom. This major that can lead to Michigan Teacher Certification.

Course Requirements for Major


Certification Track Only: 16-19 Credit Hours


Liberal Arts: 28 credit hours


Total for Degree: 121-124 credit hours


Early Childhood Education - Non-Certification - Track, B.A.


For those candidates who wish to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with NO Michigan Teacher Certification.

Liberal Arts: 28 Credit Hours


General Electives: 5-6 Credit Hours


Total for Degree: 121-122 credit hours


Other Requirements


Grade Point Average Requirements

Due to the certification requirements, Candidate’s must earn a minimum of a B- in each of their early childhood and education courses and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application for full acceptance and student teaching.

Residency Requirements

Courses in this program are designed to build on content, skill and disposition. Any transfer student will have an individual transcript review for comparison to our program outcomes, key assessments and clinical field experiences.

SED 480, SED495 Student teaching placements are residency requirement at Siena Heights University.

ECE 390, ECE 394, ECE 392, ECE 393 Practicum placements are residency requirement at Siena Heights University.
