Elementary: Preschool, Kindergarten-Grade Three (PK-3), B.A.

This program is designed for those students interested in teaching preschool and kindergarten through grade three. This is a major only. This program leads to certification. 

Course Requirements for Major


Program Requirements: 78 Credit Hours


Liberal Arts: 32 Credit Hours


  • Please note that some cognate requirements also count as liberal arts credits

Total for Degree: 126 credit hours


Concentration In Religious Studies: 12 Credit Hours


The Religious Studies concentration is designed specifically for students seeking certification in education and/or public service. This twelve-hour stand-alone concentration is for the student who wishes to add value to their major and to their life-long learning.

One Of The Following Electives: 3 Credit Hours

Grade Point Average Requirements

Students must earn a minimum of a B- in each of their education courses and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application for full acceptance and student teaching.

Due to the certification requirements, each of the following courses must also have a B- or higher:

ENG 102 Reading And Writing II  

HIS 210 U.S. History to 1877  

MAT 149 Problem Solving  

MAT 251 Math and Methods for Elementary Teachers I 

MAT 252 Math and Methods for Elementary Teachers II  

NSC 141 Science for Elementary Teachers I  

NSC 142 Science for Elementary Teachers II  

PSC 130 American Democracy  

Because of multiple course requirements

Because of the multiple course requirements in this program, students should plan on a minimum of four to four and a half years. If an additional endorsement is added then it may take five years to complete.

 

Other Requirements

  • *Denotes those courses which are required to be taken in residence at the Siena Heights University Adrian Campus. EDU 490 is a residency requirement and all student teaching placements are approved in advance within the area.
